What college football bowl games are on today?

Friday, December 27

12 p.m. – Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl (ESPN)
Oklahoma vs. Navy

Quick hit: Oklahoma is coming off a disappointing first season in the SEC (6-6, 2-6). The only saving grace for the Sooners was a dominant win over then-No. 7 Alabama, 24-3, in the second-to-last game of the year, which also just so happened to make Brent Venables’ team bowl eligible. Navy (9-3, 6-2) lost two of its three ranked matchups to CFP contender Notre Dame and then-No. 25 Tulane, but in the annual Army-Navy game, the Midshipmen dominated a No. 22 Army team that had been hyped all season long and was hoping to make it into the CFP.

3:30 p.m. – Birmingham Bowl (ESPN)
Georgia Tech vs. Vanderbilt

Quick hit: This game will be heavily impacted by opt-outs and transfers, especially for Georgia Tech. The good news for the Yellow Jackets is star quarterback Haynes King is coming back for another season and will play. Last time out, Georgia Tech went back and forth with in-state rival Georgia for eight OT, but this team looks a lot different now with so many transfers. This is really the battle of the quarterbacks as Diego Pavia is under center for the Commodores, and he’s hyped after being preliminarily granted another season of eligibility (note: the NCAA is appealing the decision).

7 p.m. – AutoZone Liberty Bowl (ESPN)
Texas Tech vs. Arkansas

Quick hit: Another game likely to be ravaged by opt-outs, the Razorbacks will get the short end of the stick in this one. Arkansas is expected to be without much of its starting 11 on offense, including some linemen and wide receivers, and key defensive players. Texas Tech is expected to have record-breaking running back Tahj Brooks, who ran for 1,505 yards and 17 touchdowns this year. He owns the program records for all-time rush attempts, all-time rushing yards and most 100-yard rushing games.

8 p.m. – DIRECTV Holiday Bowl (FOX)
#21 Syracuse vs. Washington State

Quick hit: In the wake of head coach Jake Dickert leaving for Wake Forest, Washington State is one of the teams experiencing a mass exodus this postseason. Dickert led the Cougars to an 8-4 season prior to his departure. Syracuse has much more stability this postseason, and the Orange is expected to field a nearly complete lineup for this game. The No. 21 team in the country, Syracuse notched three ranked wins this season, including Georgia Tech, UNLV, Pittsburgh and, most notably, Miami. That was the final blow for the Hurricanes’ chances to make the CFP.

10:30 p.m. – SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl (ESPN)
Texas A&M vs. USC

Quick hit: At some point earlier in the season, both of these teams were ranked in the top 15 in the country, but the Trojans finished 6-6 and the Aggies dropped to 8-4. Both teams will look different due to transfers, especially USC’s wide receiver group. USC’s Lincoln Riley is looking to finish the year above .500, and A&M’s Mike Elko will look for a redeeming win after dropping the final two of the regular season to Auburn (in 4 OT) and No. 3 Texas (17-7). Both teams have had nearly two dozen players enter the transfer portal.
