The Pittsburgh Steelers are re-signing veteran offensive lineman Max Scharping — who played two games for the Steel City in 2024 after being signed off the Washington Commanders’ practice squad — to a one-year contract.
Scharping was drafted by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has had a journeyman-like NFL career since being waived in 2022 — spending time with the Bengals, Eagles, and Commanders.
Scharping brings both experience and versatility to the Steelers, as the offensive lineman has taken snaps at tackle, guard, and center since 2019, in 81 games — while starting in 33 of those contests. Scharping is set to be the Swiss Army knife of the Pittsburgh offensive line.
The need to draft an offensive lineman in the later rounds of the draft hasn’t diminished with Scharping’s return, however, as starting LG Isaac Seumalo is set to turn 32 years old in 2025 and had injury concerns heading into last season.
