Real Madrid set sights on €40m-rated La Liga star for defensive reinforcement

According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid are preparing for a significant shake-up in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the likely departures of Lucas Vazquez, David Alaba, and Fran Garcia.

The outlet mentions that these changes are seen as part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the squad and make room for fresh reinforcements.

Starting with Vazquez, the veteran right-back has long been a dependable squad player. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the signs point towards a farewell.

Vazquez has served as a solid backup option, particularly in Dani Carvajal’s absence due to injury, but the club is reportedly looking to bring in a younger profile to ensure longevity and more consistent quality in that position.

What about Alaba and Garcia?

The situation with Alaba is a bit more complex. Once considered a pillar of the backline, the Austrian international has suffered a string of injuries that have significantly limited his impact.

While he still has some influence in the dressing room, the club is increasingly worried about his fitness and availability. If an attractive offer arrives, Madrid will consider parting ways.

As for Garcia, the 25-year-old left-back rejoined Madrid with high expectations, but has struggled to make the position his own.

While his energy and effort are not in question, his performances have been erratic, and he has yet to convince the coaching staff of his long-term value.

Premier League interest

The interest from Premier League side Bournemouth and other teams such as Juventus and Benfica indicates that Garcia still has admirers abroad. Madrid may be willing to cash in on him to raise funds for more impactful signings.

These potential exits is a clear direction from Real Madrid’s management. In order to refresh key areas of the squad, especially defence, the club is expected to make bold moves.

The idea is not just to let players go, but to open space for younger, more dynamic profiles, possibly including academy products or top-level reinforcements from the transfer market.
