Will it be out with the old and in with the new for the Carolina Panthers defense in 2025?
On Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft, general manager Dan Morgan and company double-dipped at a major position of need—outside linebacker. They traded up to the 51st overall pick in the second round to take Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton, then jumped again to the 77th overall pick in the third round for University of Mississippi’s Princely Umanmielen.
With the Panthers looking to develop their young and ascending talent at this stage of their journey, Morgan was asked if veteran edge defender Jadeveon Clowney will still be around for the upcoming campaign.
“We’re still working through the roster,” he replied. “We’re still talking through things. Obviously, we’re focused on the draft right now and what’s in front of us.”
Clowney, 32, is entering the second season of a two-year, $20 million deal. He recorded 46 combined tackles and 5.5 sacks over 14 games in 2024.
Along with the additions Scourton and Umanmielen, the Panthers have also signed free agent Pat Jones II to a two-year, $15 million pact.
