The National Hockey League (NHL) and Fanatics have unveiled the uniforms for the Winter Classic game on Dec. 31.
The Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues will face off at Wrigley Field in the game, which will be held outdoors.
Both jerseys feature special details including city-specific elements in the necklines and helmets, and the “NHL Winter Classic” designation on the bottom hem.
The Blackhawks’ uniform features a classic lace-neck collar, reminiscent of hockey’s early days, complemented by a vintage cream color intended to capture the nostalgic spirit of the Original Six era when the NHL consisted of only six teams including the Blackhawks. The front crest includes stars from the Chicago flag and the back numbers incorporate subtle pinstripes, a nod to Chicago’s baseball tradition.
The Blues’ uniform marks the first time in the team’s history that a Blue Note is not the principal design element on the chest of the jersey. Instead, the font styling and numbers are inspired by an unworn prototype Blues uniform from 1966, and the jersey also includes a newly designed vintage-style “Blue Note” on the shoulder. Fleur-de-lis designs are featured on the inside back neck and hem loop labels to honor the city of St. Louis.
The jerseys will be available to fans for purchase beginning Wednesday across the Fanatics network of sites, including the NHL online sites in the U.S. and Canada as well as both the Blues and Blackhawks team stores and the NHL Shop flagship in New York.
The Winter Classic began in 2008 and it will air on TNT and Max in the U.S. and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. ET.
