Loro Piana is ringing in its 100th anniversary in retail expansion mode.
On the heels of opening its Rodeo Drive flagship in July, and a Montecito store in August, the quiet luxury purveyor is putting down roots in Canada with two locations in Toronto.
The Italian brand has opened a boutique in the Yorkdale Shopping Centre as well as a two-story flagship on Bloor Street.
In a nod to Sergio Loro Piana’s legacy, the Bloor Street flagship seamlessly blends timeless and modern design elements in a subtle way. Enveloped by oak and silk, the interior has an earthy sophistication with its use of Carabottino wood, geometric stone tables, rose gold-framed couches, and curved arm chairs upholstered by Loro Piana Interiors fabrics. Venini chandeliers add a touch of glamour.
Upstairs, a VIP area caters to private appointments and sits adjacent to the brand’s menswear offerings. The ground level houses womenswear, leather goods, shoes, and household items.
The building’s sheen comes courtesy of Loro Piana’s now-signature glazed ceramic tiles that first made an appearance in the brand’s Dubai Mall store two years ago. The tiles, imported from a Tuscan company and made in Loro Piana’s famous kummel color, also cover the façade of the Beverly Hills flagship and were chosen for their undulating look.
“I love this about the facade and its shimmering effect,” chief executive officer Damien Bertrand, who joined Loro Piana in November 2021 from Dior, exclusively told WWD last month. “We see a lot of people that walk by and touch the tiles, so even just through this, we achieved something that is important for us because Loro Piana is about the texture, about the touch and we want to offer the best experience for our clients.”
Loro Piana’s celebration of its 100th anniversary also includes the release of a centenary book: “Master of Fibres.” Published by Assouline and written by Nicholas Foulkes, the coffee-table book presents an overview of the brand’s milestones.
“We really wanted to do something very special, it tells the story of the Loro Piana family, its six generations and we have some exclusive pictures in it,” Bertrand told WWD. “Obviously, to me, it’s much more than a book because it’s an object of desire, it’s an object of luxury, the ultimate luxury book. We did it in a very Loro Piana way.”
The book is available to buy at Loro Piana’s cashmere-wrapped takeover of Harrods for the holidays, and at the Rodeo Drive flagship. It will be available to purchase at additional Loro Piana and Assouline stores worldwide beginning Nov. 21.
