MILAN — It’s hard to miss Alanui’s latest iteration of its staple Icon cardigan, the luxe frayed style that best expresses the boho spirit and escapist ethos of the Italian high-end knitwear specialist.
For spring 2025, creative director Carlotta Oddi recreated a high-definition image of a savanna, replete with lions, giraffes, elephants and zebras, which was crafted from yarns such as silk and cashmere. The piece, which could easily double as a wearable postcard, was among the highlights of a wide collection inspired by Oddi’s recent trip to Africa.
“It’s such a vast continent and rich land. I tried to include those colors and natural elements that stayed on my mind the most,” said Oddi, who launched Alanui with her brother, Nicolò, in 2016.
As a result, beaches, savannas and palm trees mingle with vibrant geometric patterns in vivacious renditions of Alanui’s cardigans, crewnecks and tops, and flank colorful stripes and the brand’s signature codes such as the bandana motif.
Another big theme nodded to the sea world, via starfish-shaped details and real seashells adorning chic pieces in neutral solids, including charming knits and a skirt suit. They additionally ran along raw denim pants, a category that is gradually growing in Alanui’s collections.
Elsewhere, beaded effects were recreated through a weft knit technique; exotic landscapes popped up in the seasonal toile de jouy motif, and the “Remember Me” jacket introduced last season confirmed its status as a key item for women’s and men’s also in this version embroidered with palms, acacia trees and seashells.
Further expanding Alanui’s laid-back world, Oddi integrated fluid pajamas and crochet separates, and recreated lace effects on the easy-to-approach shape of oversized shirts, pants and handkerchief tops.
New to the Alanui language, technical outerwear appeared via a collaboration with specialist Alpha Industries. Alanui customized the brand’s MA-1 nylon bomber with geometric patterns on knitted details such as the cuffs; fringe on the sleeves and on the back, and a patchwork bandana lining and a beaded logo tag.
A slipdress and cardi crop top also enriched the Alanui Finest concise line. Introduced last year to offer versatile and timeless pieces, this represents the pinnacle of the brand’s offering with monochrome silhouettes crafted from an exclusive cashmere and silk blend.
Originally launched with a single product — the luxury belted cardigan with a Boho-chic vibe that is still the jewel in the crown of the label’s offering and reinterpreted in new ways each season — through the years Alanui has expanded to ready-to-wear, accessories, mini-me, pet and home lines. The brand, which is part of the New Guards Group, also released different collaborations with brands ranging from The Rolling Stones and Looney Tunes to Jacques Marie Mage, Sebago and Moon Boot, to name a few.
