Kate Middleton cancer news: Harry and Meghan ‘not eager to repair rift’ as devastated Carole ‘needs support’

Meghan Markle reads to children in first public appearance since Kate’s cancer diagnosis

Harry and Meghan are not eager to end their ongoing feud with William and Kate, who are keen to repair the rift, a royal expert claims.

The Princess of Wales revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world on 22 March, however it is understood neither Harry nor Meghan were told of the announcement ahead of time, laying bare the extent of the fallout.

Now, William and Kate want to reconcile with their in-laws who live in California, royal author Tom Quinn says.

He told the Mirror: “Kate and William are far more enthusiastic about trying for a reconciliation than Meghan and Harry.

“Keeping up the feud is easier for Meghan and Harry in many ways because in the States they may be celebrities but they are not under the spotlight in the way Kate and William are.”

Meanwhile, Kate’s “desperately upset” mother, Carole Middleton, needs the nation’s sympathies in light of her daughter’s diagnosis, says BBC’s former royal correspondent.

Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “We should also spare a thought for another mother in this – Carole Middleton. Catherine may be 42, but she is still Carole’s little girl.”

William and Camilla ‘closer than ever’ as Kate and Charles undergo cancer treatment

Camilla and William have been brought closer together as their spouses both undergo cancer treatment, says a former royal correspondent.

The Queen and the Prince of Wales are leading the royal’s public duties in the coming weeks and were pictured shoulder-to-shoulder at the Royal Family annual common wealth service last month.

Jennie Bond, former BBC royal correspondent told OK! the pair had become “unlikely allies” after a fraught relationship during William’s adolescence.

She said: “Recent events have obviously brought Prince William and Queen Camilla much closer. They have been left, almost literally, nursing the crown while the King and the Princess recover.”

“And while Camilla and William put on a brave face for the world (and no doubt for their spouses too), there may be times when they confide in one another about how they are dealing with it all.”

A royal historian has urged Harry and Meghan to ‘tread carefully’ over their next public move.

Dr Tessa Dunlop says how the couple’s “royal-lite” brand’s survival is dependent on how they act next and predicts it will have suffered a blow in recent weeks due to the magnitude of Kate’s soaring popularity after she bravely went public with her cancer diagnosis.

Dr Dunlop told the Mirror: “Beyond the uncomfortable optics, it is also possible that the Sussex brand will have taken a knock. Firstly, hard though it may be to believe, the public only has so much bandwidth for royal celebrity, and right now it is Kate who is the global icon. That she would rather not be, especially in such unhappy circumstances, garners her all the more sympathy.”

Mother who had preventative chemotherapy urges Kate Middleton to ‘stay positive’

Terri Grice, 50, felt a sharp pain under her armpit and a ‘tiny pea size lump’ under her right breast in 2011 but brushed off her symptoms.

Fortunately, her late husband Mark made her a GP appointment which led to a breast cancer diagnosis.

The mother-of-three from Chester started the long journey to recovery with an operation to remove the tumour, a lumpectomy, and then a course of “adjuvant chemotherapy” to ensure her body stayed cancer-free.

The vital lesson William and Harry should learn from history

As the nation steadies itself after learning the devastating news that the Princess of Wales is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after her cancer diagnosis, rarely has a more opportune moment presented itself to heal rifts. Pain and hurt has no privilege and a serious illness is a poignant reminder for any family that life is too precious to bear grudges.

While Harry and Meghan are said to have heard the news of their sister-in-law the same way as the rest of us, Prince Harry has reportedly been messaging his brother William ever since.

It could be the first sign of a fraternal thaw after the long silence that has ensued after the upset that Harry’s accusations have caused for the last couple of years.

What is preventative chemotherapy? Kate Middleton’s cancer treatment explained

Chemotherapy is a term used to describe the treatment of someone diagnosed with cancer and is used to kill cancerous cells – although Kate specifically used the term preventative chemotherapy.

In a statement, she said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous.

“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith praises handling of cancer diagnosis

Gary Goldsmith, Kate’s maternal uncle, has praised the Princess of Wales for her adept handling of her cancer diagnosis announcement in an interview with the Spanish show ¡De Viernes!.

“I have been in touch with my sister Carole [Middleton] to make sure my niece is okay. I thought Kate handled it incredibly well, especially in such a difficult and tricky situation.

“I don’t know anybody else who’s had to deal with something like that, deal with their children and then have to offer explanations to the national and international media in such a public scenario.”

He continued: “It’s hard to imagine that they haven’t been affected by so many comments and conspiracy theories. I have sent messages to Kate so she knows what I feel and the love I have for her.”
