Leave it to Julia Fox to make a Gap shirtdress look unconventional. On Monday, the actress and author stepped out in New York wearing Zac Posen‘s $125 frock, wearing it off the shoulder with mismatched buttons.
Fox’s accessories included sheer white gloves, a hood and a funky wide-brim hat. She completed her look with Dsquared2 pumps featuring a logo plaque, as well as a clear top-handle purse.
The “OMG Fashun” host coordinated the lime shade of her chapeau with her eye shadow, adding on heavy blush and keeping her lips bare.
Fox is namechecked on Charli XCX’s latest album, “Brat.” The viral LP has spawned both memes and fashion trends, with fans coining the color of its neon cover “‘Brat’ green.”
Fox isn’t the first celebrity to try out Posen’s Gap shirtdress. Anne Hathaway modeled the button-up shift in Rome this spring, pairing it with extravagant Bulgari jewels.
Speaking to WWD about her new E! series in May, Fox explained the importance of spotlighting up and coming designers. In “OMG Fashun,” a winner is crowned in each 30-minute episode, where three unknown designers face two distinct challenges. The champion receives $10,000 and a chance to “go viral” by dressing Fox — losing contestants are “canceled.”
“I know how disheartening it can be to enter an industry where there’s a few people at the top calling all the shots, and you have to have a lot of money and connections and privilege,” Fox explained. “To get a celebrity to wear your clothes on such a big stage is the dream, but it’s hard, and it doesn’t cost me anything. Most of the time, these kids’ designs are way cooler than the usual stuff we see.”
Fox has experience in fashion design: In her early 20s, she cofounded her own label, Franziska Fox, alongside her best friend and stylist, Briana Andalore. Their formfitting, futuristic clubwear was worn by the likes of Robin Wright, Kylie Jenner and Lindsay Lohan.
