How Skin Care Is Impacting Jobs

There’s a skin care specialist boom.

In beauty, the services sector is flourishing with the likes of fast facial bars Glowbar, Silver Mirror and Heyday expanding their footprint and companies like laser facial specialists Skin Laundry doubling its clinic count. At the same time, med spas offering injectables also continue to gain traction as these services become less taboo and more commonplace.

The trend is translating into more jobs in the skin services sector, according to official data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The government department expects skin care specialists to grow 9 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations.

About 12,400 openings for skin care specialists are projected each year, on average. 

While much of this is due to the growing sector, some of these openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

In May 2023, the most recent data available, there were around 65,270 skin care specialists.

California had the highest number at 9,690, followed by Florida at 7,000.
