The 2025 Met Gala is around the corner. Ahead of its spring exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host its annual gala on the first Monday of May.
In February, the celebrity cochairs for the event were revealed, with Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour joining Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams. This year, LeBron James will serve as honorary chair. The Met is also reviving its tradition of a star-studded host committee.
Here, WWD breaks down everything you need to know about the 2025 Met Gala.
Theme and exhibition
The 2025 Met Gala theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” honoring the museum’s exhibition, which will highlight the archetype of the Black dandy. Inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” it’s the Met’s first fashion exhibit focused on menswear since 2003.
The exhibition will feature clothing, photographs, paintings and more, highlighting Black sartorial innovation from the 18th century to the present.
Exhibition Dates: May 10 – Oct. 26, 2025, at The Met Fifth Avenue, Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall (Gallery 999, Floor 2).
Curatorial Team: Organized by Monica L. Miller (Guest Curator, Barnard College), with Andrew Bolton, William DeGregorio, Amanda Garfinkel, and others from The Costume Institute. The exhibition design involves artists Torkwase Dyson, Tanda Francis, and Iké Udé.
An illustrated catalogue with new photography by Tyler Mitchell and over 30 essays accompanies the exhibition, published by The Met and distributed by Yale University Press.

In 2025, tickets for the Met Gala cost around $35,000, while a table for 10 can range from $200,000 to $300,000.
From the 1970s going into the 1980s, the price of admission was reportedly still less than $1,000. By 1998, the price of a single ticket increased to $2,000. Since becoming a more celebrity-focused event, the gala’s ticket price has increased exponentially. By 2016, solo ticket prices cost $25,000 and a table for 10 could be purchased for $250,000, according to a report by WWD.
