8,500 Guava strollers recalled over brake issues

If you use a Guava Roam stroller, there’s an important safety recall that may affect you.

Guava Family, in partnership with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for approximately 8,500 strollers due to a brake issue that could pose a safety risk. Below, we break down what you need to know and the steps to take to keep your family safe.

Why are the Guava Roam strollers being recalled?

This voluntary recall involves three-wheel first-generation Guava Roam strollers manufactured between July 2020 and December 2021. Reports show that brakes on these strollers may either fail to engage or unexpectedly disengage, potentially causing falls or injuries.

Guava Family has received 67 reports of brake locks disengaging and 152 reports of brake pedals not engaging when pressed. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

Guava Family has stated, “We understand recalls are frustrating and inconvenient, and we’re very sorry to ask this of you. But we believe it’s important to take this step to ensure the safety of you and your little ones.”

The recalled strollers were sold online on Guava Family’s website and Babylist between August 2020 and October 2023, with prices ranging from $500 to $550.

How do I know if my Guava stroller is affected by the recall?

To determine if your stroller is part of the recall, check for the following details:

  • Manufacture Date: Between July 2020 and December 2021.
  • Model Number: 2205000.
  • Design Features:
    • Black frame with the “Guava” logo in gray.
    • Black seat, canopy, and storage compartment.
  • Identification Label: Located on the crossbar below the seat, this black label should read “Guava Family Inc.” and include the model name Roam, model number, and date of manufacture.
